Stuttgart (population: 640,000) is a major industrial city and home to two of the most famous car manufacturers in the world, Mercedes and Porsche. The mild climate and rich soil of the Neckar Valley mean the surrounding area produces some great wines too.

Stuttgart Arena

The Stuttgart Arena was built in 1933, has been renovated and modernised several times during its history, and will have a capacity of more than 50,000 for UEFA EURO 2024.
Once known as the Neckarstadion, it staged games at the 1974 and 2006 FIFA World Cups and the 1988 UEFA European Championship, as well as holding two European Cup deciders – Real Madrid's 1959 defeat of Reims and PSV Eindhoven's 1988 win against Benfica.
Following a refurbishment that was completed in 2011, the Stuttgart Arena is now a dedicated football stadium, although the likes of Bon Jovi, the Rolling Stones and Phil Collins have played concerts there. Five-time national champions VfB Stuttgart are the resident home club.

Cacau
Born in Brazil, striker Cacau became a German citizen during an 11-year spell in the Stuttgart first team; he played 23 games for his adopted country and played at the 2010 World Cup finals.
Niko Kappel (local ambassador)
A shot-put gold medallist at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Kappel was raised in nearby Schwäbisch Gmünd; he was German men’s disabled sports personality of the year for 2016 and 2017.
Eli Seitz (local ambassador)
A gymnast who represents local club MTV Stuttgart, Seitz was a gold medallist on the uneven bars at the 2022 European Championships and has a skill named in her honour in that event.

The Mercedes-Benz-Museum's star exhibits include the first car that automobile pioneer Gottlieb Daimler produced as well as Nico Rosberg's World Championship-winning Formula 1 car. The building that houses all these vehicles is a real eye-catcher too.
Explore Königsstraße
Königsstraße (translation: King Street) runs from central station to the middle of town, and has more to offer than shopping. Head for the Schlossplatz to see the Neue Schloss and Alte Schloss (new and old castles) as well as museums and the Königsbau shopping precinct.
Eat well
Local food in Stuttgart is something special: when in the city, try to check out Flädlesuppe (pancake soup), Maultaschen (pasta dough with various fillings), Zwiebelrostbraten (roast beef with onions) and Kässpätzle (local pasta with cheese).

The UEFA EURO 2024 final tournament is scheduled to take place between 14 June and 14 July 2024.
The qualifying draw took place in Frankfurt on 9 October 2022, with the final tournament draw on 2 December 2023 in Hamburg.
